New York Jets Breakdown Week 4: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

Score: Colts 37 - Jets 28

This was a much better game and we found a way to crawl back in it but blew it with personal fouls, bad play calling, and bad O-Line. DEAR GOD, FIRE ADAM GASE.

The Good:

Crowder: Crowder may be the one consistent on this team. Always gives great effort, comes back to the ball, and knows where the markers are. Good stuff.

Vincent Smith: Very happily surprised by Smith tonight. 7 rec for 81 yards. He has great speed and gets good separation. Hopefully, he can continue to develop.

Samuel Richard Darnold: Goddamn. 6 sacks, and 10 QB hits, and somehow Sammy D kept us in this game. We needed to take deep shots, case in point Broncos. They took deep shots and won, but Adam Gase doesn't do that, and we lose. I LOVE that Sam is running now and it helps, and we needed it. If I can find a way to tattoo his run TD play on my ass I will. I will die on this hill, SAM IS NOT THE ISSUE. Doesn't matter who you have back there with Gase at the Helm, FIRE GASE.

Desir: Played good and bad. If he can develop, he will be a great piece for us, but if not another liability.

Ficken: Great night for Ficken. Having a good year so far.

The Bad:

Defense: Defense was a mixed bag tonight, had some great plays, had some dismissal plays. However, the main issue is penalties. STOP GETTING PERSONAL FOULS. Some of them were bad calls or unlucky, like the one on Q, but others were just bad.

TE’s: Continuous bad effort from the TE’s is getting real old. Herndon keeps dropping balls and Griffin is slower than Witten. They don't get open and just sit on their routes.

The Ugly:

O-Line: Lots of pressure today, Becton is hurt and that blows. When he isn't in the game you can see how much he actually does.

Running: Between Gore’s 15 runs and Perine’s 5 they had a combined total of 45 yards. We are not creative on the runs and usually abandon it in the second half. The only good running came from our QB.

The Play Calling:

Gase appears to have played a game of Madden this weekend as we did some play actions. HOWEVER, in the red zone, he called the same play 3 times and it NEVER WORKED. Once again, the best plays we have are one the play call breaks down, because it's a bad play, and Sam makes magic happen. A chimpanzee with a lobotomy would be more successful because he would at least spice it up a bit.

What Needs To Happen:

The only thing that can help us, is firing Adam Gase, everything else is a moot point.

New York Jets Breakdown Week 3: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

Brutal game. The Jets continue to sink with Adam Gase as a 100-ton anchor. Let's take a look at this week's breakdown to see where we are going. Final score, Jets 7, Colts 36.

The Good:

Brutal game. There are only two names to mention.

Berrios: This is a brutal start to a season. We rank last in offense across the board and have no playmakers to speak of. We are so bad in skill positions, and the effort from all players on the offense besides Gore, Darnold, Becton, and Berrios has been awful. However! Berrios is the silver lining to a very dark cloud. He gives continuous effort, comes back to the ball, has a passion for the game, and has built up a nice rapport with Sam. For some reason, we stopped going to him early on and our offense died. He was open on a slant route when Darnold threw his third INT.

Gore: I'm so sorry Gore. You are an all-time great and your talents are wasted on this team. I saw you chew out Gase at one point which I like. I sincerely hope we trade you, so your talents, skill, and legacy can carry on elsewhere.

The Bad:

Defense: Our defense is so bad, that we now have two weeks of a backup coming in for the opposing offense. The Jets are the definition of uninspired football. We couldn't stop the run, got SMACKED through the air. Seriously, Mo Alie-Cox was so open at one point it looked like he caught a punt. Maye, Bless and Avery are trying, but when they are on a short field the whole game, there is little they can do.

TE’s: Damn. What happened to our TE’s? Herndon and Griffin are supposed to be a great duo but are severely lacking in effort. Especially Griffin, who was great for us last year. However, this year he has been bad to non-existent for us. There was a clean throw from Darnold that he just missed and he was wide open.

Darnold: Pretty awful game for Darnold, some of it is on him, like some errant throws, especially that 3rd INT, like where was that supposed to go? 17/29 for 168 yards, 1 TD, and 3 INT. However, he did run it a lot which I like.

The Ugly:

This next quote I wrote last week,

“Injuries: At this rate, the Jets will need to pull from the Reddit to get a full 53 man roster by week 6. I don’t know if it's our training staff or just unlucky, but we are completely ravaged by injuries. Mims, Crowder, Perriman, and Bell to name just a few on offense.”

This stays true unfortunately, we lost our best play on offense being Becton which hurts. We will have to see how bad his injury is.

O-Line: Lots of pressure today, Becton went out and it was downhill from there.

The Play Calling:

This is the Jet's biggest issue, and it isn't close. The few good plays we have come from Darnold staying alive somehow, and Berrios coming back to the ball. Last week was the exact same thing, Darnold escapes, buys time, Berrios comes doesn't give up on the play, and we get a touchdown. HOWEVER, the initial play call is so bad that we are more likely to throw a pick than a TD. Gase has receivers sit on routes, calls screens at an insane rate, and we rarely take deep shots. The play call does not allow a second read, and if the play isn't there from the start, it puts pressure on Darnold to make a throw that he shouldn't make. Gase’s playbook is old, predictable, and has low percentage success.

What Needs To Happen:

There have been reports that Gase’s seat is heating up, and dear god let that be true. Adam Gase is the worst coach in the NFL. He will say, “Our game plan was good but our execution was bad.” No, it is all bad. We don't practice hard, we don't play hard, and the best plays come from broken plays when the play calling is thrown out the window. Greg Williams also isn't the answer as his defensive play-calling has fallen off a cliff. We need a complete re-haul from a coaching personal standpoint, otherwise, we will never score above 17 points.

What Happens Now: Supreme Court

Regardless of what side you are on, America lost a huge figure yesterday with the passing of Ruth Bader Ginsburg (RBG). The most important election in the last 150 years is less than 45 days away and the Trump administration along with the help of Mitch McConnell in the senate are making a desperate power grab.

Mitch McConnel will go down in US history not for his work in the senate, but for the massive hypocrite he is. In 2016, McConnel delayed a vote for then supreme court nominee Merrick Garland for 293 days, citing the “Biden rule” that states a new supreme court judge should not be appointed when an election season is underway. However, as Mitch McConnel has shown us many times through his unfortunately long political career, his hypocrisy knows no bounds.

McConnel will try and ram through the nominee for Trump. Unfortunately for the republican party, the hypocrisy does not end there. Lindsey Graham begged us to use his words against him, his quote is as follows, “if there's a Republican president in 2016 and a vacancy occurs in the last year of the first term, you can say Lindsey Graham said let's let the next president, whoever it might be, make that nomination."

This showcases a much larger issue in politics. We have reached a point where leaders can’t be trusted to make good-faith decisions. Politicians have been bending the truth since Jefferson, but what’s happening now it’s way beyond that. There’s no hiding their malcontent.

The Repulsive

My Post (18).png

At 10:02 am on Saturday the 19 of September, the worst thing to come out of this tragedy is the repulsive and vile Doug Collins. Representative Doug Collins is a sickening example of this new normal. He is imploring the Trump administration to strike down Roe v Wade, which is currently the largest piece of legislation that provides women a modicum of respect when it comes to their own bodies and their choices. Doug Collins tweeted “RIP to the more than 30 million innocent babies that have been murdered during the decades that Ruth Bader Ginsburg defended pro-abortion laws. With Donald Trump nominating a replacement that values human life, generations of unborn children have a chance to live"

This tweet is indefensible, you simply cannot say you are pro-life, and then celebrate death.

The Future

Democrats will fight to delay a vote for a new supreme court nominee, however, with limited options, the first phase of this fight will come down to a selected few republicans who may vote against a supreme court nomination before the election. Lisa Murkowski, Mitt Romney, Charles E. Grassley, and Susan Collins are the most likely to flip on a vote, but I would not hold my breath. With the occasional exception of Romney, these senators usually fall in line with the republican party.

So, what comes next?

My Post (17).png

Unfortunately, I do believe a nomination and vote will pass through the senate. It is yet another grasp of a minority movement to permanently secure power against the will of the majority. This is the republican’s best chance at holding influential power for the next couple of decades.

However, this fight will be long, ugly, and ultimately disastrous for America. The appointment of Kavanaugh is already thought to be a target of a potentially democratic president, and if another judge is appointed between now and election, that spells an ugly couple of years of fighting.

If Republicans manage to push through an appointee, and then the Democrats win in November, it could lead to a complete re-haul of our judicial system.

Let us say Biden wins, but the republicans push through a nomination. If the Democrats take back the Senate, this will surely lead to a reexamination of the appointed officials and lead to potentially two removals of a supreme court judge. While this may seem like a good thing for the left, this would set a president for judges changing every time power does. Simply put, this moment will lead to the long term dismantling of government checks and balances as both parties will now feel adamant that their wanted ends will justify any means.

The Fight Continues

RGB fought her entire life for the rights of others. If we want to pay our respects to this generational leader, then we must vote. Request your mail-in ballot now and follow up to make sure it is counted. Donate to Democratic campaigns and lift those around you who cannot lift themselves. Regardless of what happens this week with the supreme court, or this year with the election, the fight will not be over.

New York Jets Breakdown Week 2: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

The Good:

Unfortunately, there is not going to be too much in this section. Pretty rough game today.

Sam Darnold: Sam Darnold has almost nothing to work with. A completely depleted receiving core, Bell out, and poor effort from tight ends. He has every excuse to be terrible and given the pressure from the NY media, and the 49ers defense, I kind of expected it. However, he played well today. Stepped into throws, didn't make mistakes, and ran the ball for once. Sam needs to continue to run the ball himself when opportunities arise and throw the ball away when the pass isn’t there. This tweet from the Jets Twitter sums it up nicely.

The O-Line: Minus a complete blow tackle from McGovern on a crucial 4th and 1, the O-Line is playing well. Becton continues to impress and the line seems to be gelling.

Berrios: As we continue to be ravaged by injuries, our secondary lineup gets some chances in the spotlight. Berrios has a ton of heart, and that is something the Jets are in desperate need of. He comes back to the ball and clearly has a passion for the game. He seems like a good dude and I hope he continues to develop.

Q: Quinnen Williams played well today, had a forced fumble, 2 sacks, 4 tackles, and 3 assists. He is very young and the 49ers line is stacked, so if he can build off this game, it will go a long way for us.

The Bad:

Defense: Bad day for the defense. Usually, Greg Williams has his team ready but that was not the case today. An 80-yard running touchdown on the first play is atrocious, but what is worse is a conversion of a 3rd and 31 on a run. The defense seemed sluggish all day and got picked apart by a gimpy Garoppolo and a backup. I know we have injuries, but it's the lack of effort that worries me.

Herndon: It pains me to my core to put Herdon on this list. He had one catch for 5 yards and dropped a great pass from Sam for a touchdown. He seems to be missing his burst from his rookie year and isn't getting enough separation. He has a chance to become great, but he is missing his opportunity right now.

The Ugly:

Injuries: At this rate, the Jets will need to pull from the Reddit to get a full 53 man roster by week 6. I don’t know if it's our training staff or just unlucky, but we are completely ravaged by injuries. Mims, Crowder, Perriman, and Bell to name just a few on offense.

The Play Calling:

Sweet mother of god, if I see one more WR screen on a 3rd and long situation I'm gonna scream. Darnold throws a great downfield ball (when he has time), but we don't throw more than 20 yards downfield. This allows the defense to try different defensive schemes that completely lock us down. We ran it way too much today with little results and with the 49ers main pass rushers out, we should have been throwing from the shotgun.

What Needs To Happen:

There is only one thing that can help the Jets at this point. Fire Adam Gase. There is no need to wait, we know what he will call when he will call it and what the results will be. He is doing a massive disservice to Sammy D. Christopher Johnson doesn't want to admit his mistake, but continuing to allow awfulness to persist is a show of bad judgment and hubris. The Jets will not be able to get anything meaningful out of this season if we continue to allow Adam Gase to ground us. If we fire Adam Gase before Sunday, there is a chance at a win against the colts, if not I doubt we get past 17 points.

New York Jets Breakdown Week 1: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

The Good:

The whole team got punched in the lip in the first half minus the last 2 minutes. We were in preseason mode, and Buffalo was not. HOWEVER, we did manage to stick around. There were plenty of missed opportunities but certain players, Maye, Bless, and Darnold stuck around and played hard.

Run Defense: We held the running backs to 41 yards, Singletary had 30 and Moss had 11. We needed to do better with QB containers as Allen had 54 yards. We had two forced fumbles but got gashed on some plays.

Maye and Bless: These two balled out today. While there were some issues with coverage for Bless, he read the run extremely well and hit hard. The next steps for him will be working on his confidence so he can play closer man to man. Maye played great today, 2 passes, 1 forced fumble, 2 sacks, 10 tackles. I’m sure he is not happy, but he played well. He made some great adjustments after the half.

Darnold: This will be controversial, but I think Darnold played better than he should have all things considered. 21-35, 60% passing, 215 yards, average 6.1 yards, 1 TD, and 1 awful pick. Early on the line looked rough, slightly better than last year, but largely the same had pressure in his face the whole game. The pick was a Sam Darnold staple pick, trying to do too much and should have run it. However, hit after hit he got up and tried to get us back in the game.

Gregg Williams: The one true consistent for the NY Jets, Greg Williams will have the defense ready to play. We got good pressure (couldn't capitalize on this due to missed tackles), great run defense, forced fumbles. He was given very little to work with, but he did well.

The Bad:

Offense Line: For and ⅗ of the game the line looked bad, a couple of holding calls, no real holes for running, and no time for Sammy D. They started to click a bit more towards the end which is a good sign, but they still need a lot of work. Van Roten seems to be the weakest link, but let me know what you think!

Missed tackles: These were all over the place for us this game. Missed Allen a bunch, some wide receivers slipped by, and generally just some poor effort.

Curl Routes: Sweet mother of pearl these plays were the bane of the Jets this week. At least 3 or 4 times a drive Allen would easily hit these. This is a result of the Jets not having enough confidence and playmakers to play man to man.

The Ugly:

By far in a way, the Jets wide receivers were horrendous today. They didn't get separation, did not come back to the ball, and dropped open/contested catches. Crowder showed great effort, but everyone else is a huge letdown. Chris Hogan looked awful and ran routes slower than Jason Witten. If he is going to play like that, use Crowder and Berrios, at least Berrios has speed. Griffin was a no show and Herdon was outright disappointing. He looked sluggish and stopped all momentum for the Jets with that awful, AWFUL fumble. Hopefully it first game jitters, but off to a shaky start to say the least. With the injuries to our WR, we need to sign Thomas or trade for someone else. Mims won’t play until midseason mostly likely and Sam has to develop chemistry with someone other than Crowder.

Injuries: Seriously, what the hell is up with these injuries? Do we need to reevaluate our training staff? Cashman went out which is brutal for us as we are very thin at Linebacker. And the most brutal punch of the day is the injury to Bell, not sure how long he will be out, just a complete punch in the gut. He was playing well, only had 6 runs but was finding some holes, and was a factor in the passing game. He was open for a TD on the injury play but got caught up with a Bills player. If that play goes different, then the rest of the game might look different as well. If Bell is out long term, with Perine out already we will need to sign another back. BRING BACK POWELL!

The 21-0 start was horrific, but we didn't lay down and got much better as the game went on. Next week we face the 49ers at home. As they are an away team from the west coast, the timezones will be a factor, and if the Jets can continue to play well against the run, we may have a shot. BUT that will completely depend on whether or not the Jets O-Line can stop a stack pass rush. Hopefully, LB's can get healthy quickly, otherwise Kittle will have a big day. That being said I think the Jets lose next week by a similar score. I'll say Jets 20 - 49ers 28. While an 0-2 start is bad, I think we win 4 of the next games. Colts, Broncos, Cardinals, and Chargers. I think we have some favorable matchups here especially on defense, but this will completely depend on injuries and development. If the Jets are well below .500 next time we see the Bills, it will be time to move on from Gase.

I am an optimist so take what I say lightly, I know the Jets don't encourage optimism.
